Chairman CDA Lauds DMA for Historic Success in Bus Stand Auctions

ISLAMABAD: September 17, 2025: On the directions of Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has successfully conducted the open auction of the G-9 and I-11 bus stands. This marks a historic milestone in the revenue generation of DMA. The auction was held transparently under the supervision of Director DMA, Dr. Anam Fatima, with active participation from leading contractors across the country. For years, both bus stands had been operating on a self-recovery basis due to repeated auction failures and contractor monopolies. However, through reforms, strict monitoring, and improved revenue management, DMA not only stabilized income but also restored investor confidence, creating a competitive environment that led to overwhelming participation. Contractors appreciated the transparent and merit-based process, terming it unprecedented. The G-9 bus stand was auctioned for Rs. 81.60 million annually, compared to the previous self-recovery amount of Rs. 37.90 million—an increase of over 104%. Similarly, the I-11 bus stand fetched a record Rs. 38.00 million per year, up from Rs. 6.50 million earlier this year, reflecting an extraordinary increase of over 400%. Both contracts have been awarded on merit for a three-year term, with a mandatory 10% annual increase. According to DMA, this achievement reflects its commitment to transparency, fair competition, and sustainable financial management. The enhanced revenue will strengthen MCI’s resources, enabling the provision of better municipal services to citizens.
