CDA Mazdoor Union Presents Charter of Demands on Employees' Issues

Islamabad: The CDA Mazdoor Union, as the representative union of employees, has formally presented a Charter of Demands to the CDA administration under the Industrial Relations Act, 2012. A special ceremony in this regard was held at the CDA Secretariat, which was attended by Chairman CDA Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf, Member Administration Asfand Yar Baloch, Director Labour Relations Asif Ali Khan, Deputy Director HRD Akram Arain, General Secretary CDA Mazdoor Union Chaudhary Muhammad Yasin, President Aurangzeb Khan, Patron-in-Chief Haji Sabir Hussain, Vice Chairman Warith Dalip, Chief Coordinator Muhammad Wajid Gujjar, Additional General Secretary Asad Mahmood, Muhammad Sarfraz Malik, Safdar Abbasi, Shafiullah Khan, and other office-bearers. Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary CDA Mazdoor Union Chaudhary Muhammad Yasin said that the Mazdoor Union had, in accordance with the Industrial Relations Act, 2012, legally submitted a Charter of Demands covering the issues and demands of CDA employees. He said that the Charter of Demands includes the allotment of plots to employees, approval of residential flats and additional residential colonies, recruitment of employees' children, immediate approval of overtime and site offices for field staff, provision of occupational health and safety equipment, upgradation of various CDA departments, resolution of employment-related issues, increase in existing allowances and approval of new allowances, approval of employees' lines of promotion, construction of the CDA Model College, upgradation of pay scales, creation of new posts, and other demands aimed at the welfare, betterment and improvement of employees. Chaudhary Muhammad Yasin said that the CDA Mazdoor Union believes in dialogue and negotiations. Welcoming the positive approach of the Chairman CDA and Member Administration, he expressed hope that the CDA administration would ensure daily consultations on the Charter of Demands, and that the agreed demands would be finalized and approved after completion of the consultation process. He said that the CDA Mazdoor Union assured its full cooperation for the development of the institution and the prosperity and improvement of the city in accordance with the vision of Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi. He, however, demanded that all field staff who perform duties beyond their prescribed working hours during emergency situations should be provided immediate overtime payment. He further called upon all concerned departments that require employees to work beyond official working hours to ensure timely payment of overtime. He also demanded the immediate approval of recruitments and pending cases under the Prime Minister's Package, so that the families of orphans and widows could receive support and have a means of livelihood. Speaking on the Charter of Demands, Chairman CDA Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf issued clear directions to Member Administration to ensure that officers of the relevant departments hold daily meetings with the members of the Joint Works Council of the CDA Mazdoor Union regarding the Charter of Demands. The Chairman CDA further directed all concerned departments to take immediate steps for implementation of the directions regarding pending issues of employees represented by the union, so that their legitimate issues could be resolved at the earliest.
