ISLAMABAD: February 21, 2026: The two-day International Seminar on modern surgical and pharmacological therapies for obesity concluded successfully at Capital Hospital, in which over 160 international and national medical experts and other doctors from Capital Hospital from across the country participated. Organized in line with the directions of Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Member Administration Talat Mehmood Gondal, the aim of this seminar was to promote the treatment of obesity through global collaboration and hands-on training. In this seminar, held under the supervision of Executive Director Capital Hospital, Prof. Dr. Naeem Taj, renowned national and international experts discussed the rapidly evolving field of obesity treatment. The seminar highlighted advanced bariatric and metabolic surgical procedures, new-generation anti-obesity pharmacotherapy and the importance of long-term multidisciplinary care. The most prominent feature of the seminar was the live surgeries of patients performed by Prof. Khaled Gawadat, President of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO). He performed a live Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) surgery, meticulously explaining each step and its benefits to the attending doctors, providing an unparalleled educational and practical experience. The international faculty was further strengthened by Prof. Antonio Torres from Spain, a pioneer of the SADI-S procedure, who shared his expertise on global innovations in bariatric surgery. Dr. Imran from the UAE also contributed valuable insights on evidence-based strategies for comprehensive obesity management. The scientific seminar, organized by Executive Director Capital Hospital Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem Taj, Dr. Syed Tanseer Asghar and Dr. Sartaj Ali, included expert lectures on obesity and interactive case-based learning sessions. Key sessions covered the latest advances in bariatric surgery, including SADI-S and RYGB techniques, patient selection criteria and complication management. The medical management of obesity as a chronic disease was explored in depth by Dr. Farhan Ali and Dr. Sarwar Malik, who discussed the integration of modern pharmacological therapy with lifestyle modifications and long-term follow-up. Executive Director Capital Hospital, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem Taj, said that modern and comprehensive measures are being taken at Capital Hospital to discourage obesity at every level in order to promote a healthy society. The seminar concluded with a consensus that effective obesity management requires a multidisciplinary, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach.
