ISLAMABAD: October 21, 2025: A review meeting on dengue prevention and control in the twin cities was held at the CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of Punjab Provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Khawaja Imran Nazir. The meeting was attended by Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, DG Health Services MCI, representatives from the Rawalpindi administration, and other relevant officers. The Executive Director PIMS, Deputy Commissioner Murree, and officers from the Federal Ministry of Health also joined the meeting via Zoom. During the briefing, the Provincial Health Minister was informed about the current dengue situation, surveillance activities, and preventive measures being implemented in both cities. It was reported that no dengue-related deaths have occurred so far this year in Islamabad or Rawalpindi, while the number of patients is gradually declining. In the last 24 hours, 13 dengue cases were reported in Rawalpindi and 25 in Islamabad. The coordinated efforts between both administrations have effectively prevented the large-scale spread of dengue, resulting in a lower infection rate compared to the previous year. The meeting was also informed that adequate hospital beds, test kits, medicines, and other medical facilities are available for dengue patients in public hospitals of both cities. On the occasion, Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir directed both city administrations to further strengthen coordination, particularly in boundary areas, and to ensure strict monitoring of identified hotspots. He appreciated Chairman CDA and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad for their effective measures in controlling dengue spread in the Federal Capital. Addressing the meeting, Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding preventive measures against dengue, especially among the elderly and children. He directed that awareness campaigns be organized in mosques, educational institutions, and community centers to educate citizens on cleanliness, mosquito breeding prevention, and timely medical treatment. He further stated that the administrations of both cities are working together as one team to eliminate dengue, with special focus on cleanliness drives, fogging and fumigation campaigns, and improvement of drainage systems.
