Eid-ul-Adha Cleanliness and Sanitation Arrangements Finalized in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: 26th May, 2026: In line with the direction of Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, a comprehensive cleanliness plan has been finalized for the Federal Capital Islamabad on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. In this regard an important meeting was held at the CDA Headquarters regarding the special cleanliness operation in the Capital on Eid-ul-Adha, chaired by the Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Sohail Ashraf. The meeting was attended by Member Environment, Abdullah Khurram Niazi, Director Solid Waste Management, CDA and relevant senior officers of the ICT. Relevant officers gave a detailed briefing to Chairman CDA Sohail Ashraf regarding the arrangements and measures taken for Eid-ul-Adha in the Capital. They informed him that, in addition to officers from the CDA Solid Waste Management Directorate relevant Assistant Commissioners will also supervise this special operation. During the briefing, Chairman CDA was informed that over 2,000 personnel of the CDA Solid Waste Management Directorate will perform duties for the special cleanliness operation, and more than 200 vehicles and machinery will also be used in this special operation. Chairman CDA was informed that over 151 pits have been dug at 89 different locations to dispose of animal offal and over 200,000 biodegradable bags are being distributed free of cost in urban and rural areas of Islamabad. A door-to-door campaign for distributing biodegradable bags had already been launched by the Solid Waste Management Directorate. It was further briefed that the city has been divided into five (05) different zones to ensure cleanliness arrangements. Chief Sanitary Inspectors and Supervisors will perform special monitoring duties in various zones of the City. Chairman CDA was told that phenyl and lime will also be sprayed to eliminate odor and stench from slaughterhouses and offal. To make the special cleanliness and sanitation operation successful on Eid-ul-Adha, citizens have been appealed to cooperate with the sanitation staff to not throw offal into drains, open spaces, forests, etc., and not to put them in dustbins, garbage trolleys, or skips. Legal action will be taken against violations. Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Sohail Ashraf, directed that arrangements for the scientific disposal of offal should be made by staying in contact with the management committees of all private and cooperative housing societies. It was informed that a central control room has been established at the Islamabad Safe City sector H-11 to monitor the cleanliness arrangements for Eid-ul-Adha. CCTV and drone cameras of Islamabad Safe City will also be used to monitor the sanitation operation. Meanwhile, emergency centers have been set up at the Sanitation Directorate's main office located in G-6/4 and the Transport Section located at the Fire Headquarters, G-7/4. During the briefing, it was said that citizens can contact the Sanitation Helpline numbers 1334 or 9213908 regarding sanitation issues or for the removal of offal. Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Sohail Ashraf, said that achieving the goal of a Zero Waste City for the capital Islamabad is possible only through the full cooperation of citizens and the implementation of the given instructions.
