ISLAMABAD: September 25, 2025: A meeting was held on Thursday at the CDA Headquarters, chaired by Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to review the implementation of the Beautification Plan for Islamabad. The meeting was attended by Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, DG Environment Awais Tarar, and other senior officers. Several decisions were taken to enhance the performance of the Environment Wing and ensure the effective execution of the Beautification Plan. A comprehensive roadmap for revamping the Environment Wing was discussed. Key issues, including staff shortages and the lack of modern equipment, were highlighted. Chairman CDA directed that an effective operating model be developed through a comparative analysis of models from other provinces, with emphasis on adopting IT and modern technology to strengthen operational and financial systems. He further instructed that GIS tagging and an effective monitoring system be introduced for plant care and the prevention of tree cutting. The installation of modern sprinkler systems for the rapid propagation and protection of plants and flowers was also directed. It was briefed that Environment Wing staff will undergo special training courses. Major roundabouts along the Expressway, Faisal Avenue, New Blue Area, and Murree Road will be decorated with seasonal flowers. The CDA Model Nursery will ensure the year-round availability of flowers. Additionally, highways, loops, green belts, bridges, interchanges, central medians, and entry/exit points will be beautified through attractive landscaping. Special attention will be given to the beautification of major entry points, loops, and intersections. Large-scale flower beds will be created to transform Islamabad into a "City of Flowers." Chairman CDA also directed the launch of the "Friends of Islamabad Environment" initiative, engaging the private and corporate sectors under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to support beautification projects. A dedicated website page and email address will be created to facilitate proposals and sponsorships from private entities. Furthermore, the Chairman directed that modern, aesthetically designed LED lights be installed at key locations on a permanent basis. Cost estimates and timelines will be fixed for each initiative. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa reaffirmed that all possible measures and resources will be utilized to make Islamabad a beautiful and environmentally friendly city.
