Date: Nov 27, 2025

ISLAMABAD: November 26, 2025: A meeting was held on Wednesday at the CDA Headquarters, chaired by Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to further promote a cashless economy in the Federal Capital. The meeting was attended by Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, senior CDA officers, and representatives from central and commercial banks. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that, in line with the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, and the Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, Islamabad is being developed as a model city for a cashless economy. According to details, a cashless system has already been successfully introduced in Islamabad’s weekly bazaars, CDA’s One-Window Facilitation Center, and metro and electric bus services. Meanwhile, the scope of QR code–based payments is being rapidly expanded to all markaz, shopping malls, and Class-III markets across the city. A cashless system is also being introduced in hotels, guest houses, petrol pumps, and restaurants in the Federal Capital. The Chairman said that commercial banks must ensure comprehensive awareness for both merchants and citizens to promote cashless transactions. He added that all banks should offer maximum discounts and incentives to shopkeepers, traders, and consumers to encourage payments via Raast QR codes. Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa further stated that initiatives such as M-Tag and digital parking are also being introduced to transform Islamabad into a fully digital city. He added that these measures will play a vital role in making Islamabad a completely cashless and digitized capital.
