Chairman CDA Chairs Meeting on Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Federal Cap

ISLAMABAD: January 20, 2026: A meeting was held at the CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, regarding the improvement of the solid waste management system in the Federal Capital, Islamabad. The meeting was attended by CDA Board Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, DG Environment and other relevant officers. Discussions were held during the meeting on improving the existing solid waste management system in the Federal Capital Islamabad and formulating a future strategy. Chairman CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, said that we intend to adopt immediate and sustainable solutions to the cleanliness and sanitation issues under the solid waste management system of the Federal Capital, Islamabad. The meeting reviewed the progress of the outsourcing process for solid waste management services in the Federal Capital Islamabad. While briefing the meeting, it was informed that the bidding process for outsourcing solid waste management services is progressing rapidly. Under this system, various packages comprising urban and rural areas have been prepared. The meeting was further informed that both primary and secondary collection will be included under this system. Chairman CDA directed that fines and legal action be taken against elements spreading waste and dumping garbage at unauthorized locations in the City. The meeting reviewed matters pertaining to the upgradation of transfer station and the establishment of modern landfill site. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed to promptly complete the upgradation process of the existing transfer station. He also directed to work on establishing additional transfer station and scientific landfill site in the Federal Capital Islamabad. Chairman CDA said that the new landfill site for the Federal Capital Islamabad will be constructed according to the latest scientific principles and best practices. He said the landfill site must be environmentally friendly and meet international standards. Chairman CDA said these measures will prove to be a significant step towards providing a clean and healthy environment for the Federal Capital. He further said that all resources are being utilized to establish a modern and efficient cleanliness and sanitation system in the Federal Capital Islamabad.
