CDA to Adopt Modern, Sustainable Solutions for Islamabad’s Water and Sewerage System

ISLAMABAD: October 8, 2025: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, chaired a meeting on Wednesday at the CDA Headquarters regarding potential water and sewerage projects under the Islamabad Water Agency. The meeting was attended by Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, DG Islamabad Water, DG P&CA, a delegation from the IFC, representatives from P3A, and other officers. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that the CDA is paying special attention to adopting modern and sustainable solutions to provide clean and safe water to the citizens of Islamabad. He stated that practical work will soon begin to improve the sewerage system and launch clean water projects in the capital. The meeting was informed that comprehensive measures are being taken to equip the Islamabad Water Agency with modern facilities, technical expertise, and advanced technology. Various projects to modernize the water system were discussed in detail. Special focus was given to preventing water loss, eliminating line losses, promoting water conservation, and encouraging the wise use of water. A detailed discussion was held on the water metering project, and it was decided that a consultant will be hired for its implementation. The meeting also discussed shifting all electrical installations, including tube wells, to solar energy and installing modern, energy-efficient pumps to achieve significant savings in electricity consumption. Chairman CDA said that the technical expertise and extensive experience of the IFC will be fully utilized. He emphasized that water is not only a basic necessity but is also vital for sustaining life, and it is essential to value every drop to prevent future water scarcity challenges.
