CDA Reviews Major Development Projects, Accelerates Model Graveyard and Key Road Infrastructure Plans

ISLAMABAD: 26 February, 2026: A meeting was held on Wednesday at CDA Headquarters regarding the ongoing and future development projects in Islamabad City, under the chairmanship of Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting was attended by CDA Member Administration and Estate, Talat Mehmood, Member Engineering, Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design, Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Director General (DG) Design, Director General (DG) Procurement and Contract, Director General (DG) Infrastructure, other officers, as well as the relevant Project Directors. The meeting reviewed the planning and progress of various development as well as public welfare projects. Detailed discussion was held in the meeting regarding the project to construct a model graveyard at the Pandoriyan site in Islamabad. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that the design of the Pandoriyan Model Graveyard be finalized at the earliest and the approaches from various major roads be provided for access to the cemetery to facilitate citizens. He directed that the provision of spacious prayer halls for funerals, ablution areas and adequate parking facilities be ensured in the model graveyard. He further directed that along with an electric hearse, ambulance and other facilities, CCTV surveillance for security and monitoring shall also be ensured. The meeting reviewed the progress on the project to connect Margalla Avenue with Motorway M-1. Briefing the meeting, it was informed that construction work will commence soon after the opening of bids for the project. Discussion was held in the meeting on the project to resolve traffic issues at Kashmir Chowk. The meeting was informed that the services of a consultant for this project would be acquired soon. The meeting was also briefed on the project for the construction of Expressway Service Road East. Briefing the meeting, it was said that the tendering process has been initiated to acquire the services of a consultant for this project. Discussion was also held in the meeting on the project to resolve traffic issues from Express Chowk to Aga Khan Avenue. Similarly, discussion was held in the meeting regarding the construction of Eleventh Avenue. The meeting was informed that an advertisement has been issued to acquire the services of a consultant for this project. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that timely Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for future projects be ensured. The meeting reviewed the progress made on the Islamabad Convention Centre, Exhibition and Expo Centre project. Chairman CDA said that high quality must be ensured in all development projects, along with their completion according to their timelines.
