ISLAMABAD: November 10, 2025: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, met with a delegation from South Korea at the CDA Headquarters on Monday. The South Korean delegation included representatives from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and South Korean hydrologists and water experts. The meeting was also attended by CDA Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Director General Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Director General Islamabad Water, and other senior officers from relevant departments. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized that the Authority is giving special attention to adopting sustainable solutions for the uninterrupted supply of clean and safe water to the citizens of Islamabad. During the meeting, a comprehensive briefing was given on ongoing and proposed measures to address water-related challenges in the Federal Capital. It was informed that the establishment of the Islamabad Water Agency aims to develop an efficient water supply and sewage system, enhance water resource management, and strengthen water conservation efforts. The briefing further highlighted that 100 large rechargeable wells are being constructed at various locations in Islamabad to recharge groundwater using rainwater, while 20 large reservoirs will be built to preserve clean water flowing through natural streams. In addition, 11 wetlands are being developed across the city to reduce water pollution, alongside the construction of new wastewater treatment plants. The meeting also discussed several future projects aimed at modernizing Islamabad’s water infrastructure. The South Korean delegation expressed their willingness to provide technical support and cooperation for improving groundwater management and water quality monitoring systems. They offered to assist in developing an integrated groundwater management plan for the Federal Capital. The delegation shared plans to introduce a modern real-time water resource monitoring system in Islamabad and proposed initiating a project for the installation of 110 piezometers for automatic monitoring of water resources. They also assured cooperation in technical and professional capacity building of local teams. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that a clear timeline be developed to ensure the swift implementation of water-related projects. Both sides agreed to accelerate joint efforts for a permanent and sustainable solution to Islamabad’s water challenges through mutual collaboration. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment to benefit from South Korea’s technical expertise and experience to strengthen Islamabad’s water management systems and promote long-term sustainability.
